Every in-town neighborhood has one (or ought to have one): a watering hole perfect for informal gatherings. The Fairmount is one such place located in the middle of the Cedar-Fairmount shopping district. The Fairmount serves food and drink nightly (Figure 1), a rarity for an industry that usually goes dark Sunday or Monday or both.
Steve and I found this cocktail bar early in our house hunting days (Figure 2). Soon after moving in, Will Bush discovered he could walk to the bar, or more importantly, walk home from the bar. Even our unofficial (but, really, the official) EPBI happy hour chair Dr. Farren Briggs brought the group here for some cross-concentration socializing.
All of us were and continue to be impressed with the beer and cocktail selections, especially for our not-so-hip or downtown location. Perhaps the most impressive is The Fairmount’s patio space in the back. Sure, we can only enjoy it for a few months of the year, but it’s well worth the wait. During certain hours, the apps and drinks are discounted, but the vitamin D is always free!
For most of the year, though, we enjoy The Fairmount indoors. The indoor space is large and decorated with some interesting art. Conversation pieces, really (Figure 3). The food menu is extensive enough for dinner if you are interested in more than just a bite with your drink. Perhaps the only downside is that service can be slow. Really, really slow. Oh well, more time for catching up, discussing the art or soaking in those sunbeams, I suppose.
