A few months ago, CWRU EpiBiostats alum Fred Schumacher and wife Jaimie (PhD and MD, respectively) visited the department and Cleveland for a few days. During the visit, the couple mentioned they were meeting some old friends at La Cave Du Vin in Coventry for drinks. Did you say vin? Yes, they did.
Like a moth to a light bulb, I was immediately interested in hearing more about this cave. Turns out La Cave is a bar in Coventry just minutes from our house. So off we went to check it out.
La Cave Du Vin is located in Coventry Village underneath the Grog Shop. I don’t know exactly when it opened, but I did see on-line reviews dating back to 2004, so it’s been there for a while. La Cave is meant to mimic a cellar, so it’s pretty dark down there. And, it is cozy, so I can imagine that it can get crowed on the weekends or weeknights when there are live music events in the area.
La Cave is definitely a bar, so don’t go there if you are hungry as they only serve cheese and meat boards that can be prepared quickly without a real kitchen (Figure). The wine and beer selections are very good. Even better is the fact that they are also a wine and beer store, so you can buy bottles on your way out to enjoy at home. Overall, Steve and I liked our experience but I don’t think this place will be on our heavy rotation list because of the lack of food. After all, man cannot survive on cheese and bread alone!
Update: La Cave Du Vin closed April 29, 2018.
