CICB-affiliated PhD candidate selected for ARVO oral presentation

CWRU Epidemiology and Biostatistics PhD candidate Lauren Cruz, MPH, has been selected to give an oral presentation at the upcoming 2025 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). ARVO is the largest eye and vision research organization with more than 11,000 members representing ~60 countries across the world. Ms. Cruz is co-mentored by former CICB faculty Dr. Jessica Cooke Bailey, now Associate Professor at East Carolina University, and CICB Associate Director and CWRU Professor Dr. Dana Crawford. Dr. Cooke Bailey is the scientific leader of genetic discovery projects for primary open-angle glaucoma using the Million Veteran Program. Ms. Cruz will give her talk titled “Expanding ancestral diversity reveals novel insights into African primary open-angle glaucoma genetics” on May 6th. Ms. Cruz has also been selected to receive a Knights Templar Eye Foundation Travel Grant to attend and present at ARVO 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
